DDS - Day 7, Puppy Profiles

Last but not least is a little more about my pups, as if you don't see them on this blog enough.  

First up is Sadie!

• Age - 11 and a half and going strong
• Breed - Lab, blue heeler mix.  She was a rescue puppy.
• Likes - SQUIRRELS! swimming, digging holes, and sleeping upside down
• Dislikes - People touching her feet and pretzels.
• Pup Fact - Sadie is a published dog model.  Check her out in Amanda Jones' book A Breed Apart: A Celebration of the New American Mutt.  She also has her own organic dog bakery named after her that I'm relaunching this spring.  Stay tuned for more. 

Next is Gidget!

• Age - about 6.  She came from a beagle rescue so that's the best guess.
• Breed - Beagle, jack russell mix, also known as a Jackabee.
• Likes - Walks in the woods, affection from anyone with hands, and snacks.
• Dislikes - Rough pettings, getting dirty, walking through snow and crunchy biscuits.
• Pup fact - She can't bark without having her front feet pop off the ground.  We've tested this by holding her feet to the ground and asking her to speak.  She also gets a little sassy when she is ignored or harassed so when we let her feet go she makes sure we remember she knows how to bark after all.

And then there's Mr. Biscuit!

• Age - He just turned 1 in Feb.  My little man is growing up.
• Breed - Basenji, jack russell mix.
• Likes - Sadie & Gidget, frisbee fetch, digging holes, and chasing bugs. 
• Dislikes - Doing anything but playing constantly or going for walks.  
• Pup fact - When he gets wound up playing with Sadie he starts running hot laps from one side of the house to the other.  The peak of his excitement results in him going so fast that he starts to slam into the wall to stop.  Yes he is 28 pounds of crazy.

DDS - Day 6, Puppy Pack Profile

Introducing Kristina Z's Pack!

First up is Princess!

• Age - She is a Humane Society rescue the family got after Kristina's second birthday.  She just turned 18!  
• Breed - She's a mutt, but aren't they the best?!
• Likes - Eating fresh vegetables, especially lettuce and carrots, and american cheese.
• Puppy Fact -  When she was younger she was hit by a car while chasing a frog and still has trouble with her leg.  Now when she uses the bathroom, she lifts her leg like a boy dog. 

Next is Lola!

• Age - Almost four years old.
• Breed - Chiweenie, thats Chihuahua and Weener Dog.
• Likes - She loves dressing up for more attention.  Tutus, Snuggies, shirts, bandanas, shoes....she's got it all.  
• Dislikes - She's a diva to the max and isn't too fond of anyone until she gets to know them.  She does not like her paws touching the ground and prefers to be carried everywhere.  She often refuses to jump onto the furniture to reach you, but prefers someone picking her up and placing her in your lap.  
• Puppy fact - She struggles opening the doggie door because she is so little, and will often paw at it for a while until a human, or another dog, offers her help.

Next is Luigi!

• Age - He was also a rescue so they aren't sure of his exact age.  The shelter estimated it around 2 when they brought him home so he's about 4 now.
• Breed - Dachshund!
• Likes - He is a lover boy.  He loves cuddling up to anyone and everyone.  He loves to play tug of war and refuses to surrender.  They pick him up by his toys now and again, hanging on for dear life!
• Dislikes - He is defensive of his family and any perceived threat will be bitten!
• Puppy fact - The poor baby has the worst gas attacks so they try to stick with a strict diet, but he LOVES ice cream and bread!

Next is Lucky!

• Age - About 3 years old.
• Breed - Dachshund mix, also from a shelter.
• Likes - She's a chunker so she loves food, especially her brother and sisters' food.  She plays "steal-the-bone" with her siblings too and will literally hoard them all to taunt the other dogs with her mother load.
• Dislikes - Cats!  She's an avid cat chaser and protector of her family.  (She's all bark and no bite though.)
• Puppy fact - She is so short and small that she finds her way into the trickiest of places.  Recently she let herself out of the backyard by squeezing under the fence and onto the front porch waiting of the family to get home!  

Last but not least is Blackjack!

• Age - Another rescue who is about 2.5 years old.
• Breed - Basenji mix who is incredibly smart!
• Likes - Doing tricks like shaking hands, playing dead, dancing and his favorite "more" which is him rubbing his right paw on his nose to tell you to pet him.  He also taught himself how to open doors, and knows all the spellings of his favorite words like, W-A-L-K, T-R-E-A-T, and R-I-D-E.  
• Dislikes - He HATES getting baths or swimming in pools, but loves swimming in the bayous and rivers near the house.  I guess dirty water is OK in his book.  
• Puppy fact - For awhile, he was unaware of his growing size because he grew up with smaller puppies. He has hit people in the face a few times while trying to jump into their lap and even gave mom a black eye! A few times, he has lifted his leg onto our smaller dogs not realizing they were under him while using the bathroom.  Silly dog.

DDS - Day 4, Puppy Profiles

Meet Duke!

• Duke is 6 years old and the best guess is that he is a lab - grey hound mix. Kris from Duke Says Sew What adopted him from a shelter in Bedford, Texas when he was 4 months old. She called him "Sir Duke of Bedford". Three days later (after falling in love with him) they found out he was very sick. He was hospitalized with IVs for a week, but recovered, and has been like a member of her family every since.
• Duke loves to go to the dog park and meet other dogs. He is the "greeter" of each new dog that arrives. We think the other dogs may be a bit jealous of his snazzy scarves.   Duke also likes a good snooze on his bed while Kris sews.  He sleeps under her sewing table to the hum of the machine.
• He loves his dog treats! The family keeps a bowl in 2 rooms as he will bark at them and look at his bowl when he needs a little snack. Sometimes he just licks it and carries it around the house.
• Something funny that Duke does: whenever he comes in from the back yard (he can open the screen door with his nose) he runs through the house to find Kris and then licks her hand. It's like he is saying "hello, I love you Mom!"

DDS - Day 3, Puppys and paws

My puppertins wanted to stop on by to say hi to all of their internet dog friends and let you know some fun facts about themselves.  They hope you are having as wonderful a Spring as they are!

Name: Abby, aka Bubba, Bubbertins, Bubs, Butter pup, Tins

Likes: Playing with the ball, anything to do with water, flopping dramatically on the floor

Dislikes: Going to the vet and sharing anything

Favorite Movie: Troop Beverly Hills

Fun Fact: Abby thinks that the most refreshing water is the kind that drips out of other dogs' lips

Name: Sage, aka Stinkybear, Tiny Man, Mr. Lips, Tiny Bear, Moose Lips
Likes: Walks with daddy, bananas, dreaming about being Head Boy at Hufflepuff
Dislikes: long car rides to Grandma's house and having to go outside with the girls
Favorite Movie: Spooky Buddies
Fun Fact: Sage will put his whole head underwater in the kiddy pool to get the bone before Abby

Name: Sprout, aka Baby Girl, Roll-of-bologna, Squid Bait, Squirrel Bait, Stinky Taco Dog

Likes: Keeping tabs on the guinea pigs, junk food, being bossy

Dislikes: Baths and anyone who does not respect her authority

Favorite Movie: Die Hard

Fun Fact: Sprout likes to whizz in lakes and rivers.

I made this paw print embroidery to hang up in the dog room.  I am grateful everyday for how these wonderful lives have touched my heart and made me a better person.  Dogs and my heart are forever entwined.

Meet Alfie!

• He is a 7 month old Golden Retriever who lives with Alecia from Chicken Scratch. 
• He enjoys being loved, licking people in the shower and makes friends wherever he goes.  
• He loves their cat, but she doesn't return his enthusiastic affection. 
• He prefers cat toys to do toys and is a big fan of belly rubs.  
• There isn't much he doesn't like, except being left inside when he can see his family outside without him.  What a typical Golden.

We are looking for a few good mutts.  Do you have an adorable pooch at home?  Maybe more than one?  Would you love to see them featured on Rhinestone Beagle?  Here's you chance.  Starting April 29th we will be having a full week devoted to pooch centric posts called the Dog Days of Spring.  Everything from tutorials to a giveaway or two and of course our weekly link party.  We will also be featuring reader's dogs with a little bio post called The Puppy Profiles; basically an interview with your dog.  Wanna sign up?  Here's how.....
